Background of the Study

Grassroots political education plays a crucial role in enhancing electoral integrity by ensuring that citizens understand their rights and responsibilities within the democratic process. In Kano Municipal Local Government, political education initiatives have been instrumental in promoting informed voting, reducing electoral fraud, and encouraging active participation (Mohammed & Umar, 2023). Political education programs aimed at grassroots populations help demystify the electoral process, foster transparency, and empower voters to hold political leaders accountable. Despite these efforts, challenges such as voter apathy, illiteracy, and misinformation persist, undermining the overall impact of grassroots education on electoral integrity. This study examines the effectiveness of grassroots political education programs in Kano Municipal and assesses their impact on the transparency and credibility of the electoral process.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

Although grassroots political education has been promoted as a means to improve electoral integrity in Kano Municipal, there is limited empirical evidence on its actual impact. Many local residents are still unaware of their electoral rights, and issues like voter manipulation and fraud persist. Political education programs may not be effectively reaching the most vulnerable groups, or they may not be comprehensive enough to counteract misinformation (Abdulkadir & Yusufu, 2024). This study seeks to evaluate the impact of grassroots political education on electoral integrity, addressing the gaps and challenges in its implementation and effectiveness in Kano Municipal.
